2016 BYODF Winner Announced

We would like to congratulate this year’s winner and recipient of the Become Your Own Dream Fund Scholarship – Leonard “Lenny” Merkin, from Poly Prep.

2012 NYS Schoolboy Champion; USAW Kids Greco-Roman All-American; Winner of 4 straight Private School State crowns; 3 Mayor’s Cup gold medals (2014-2016); Fargo All-American status (7th at the 2014 USAW Junior GR Tournament); Top-5 finisher in 2015 at NHSCA Junior Nationals; Top-6 finisher at the 2015 Super 32/Battle For the Belt; and 2-time place winner in the top-3 at the Prep National Tournament

We are all very excited for his future as he starts a new chapter at Princeton University and are pleased to have added his name to the ranks of Become Your Own Dream Scholarship Fund recipients!

  • About the Scholarship Fund

    This scholarship, known as the “Become Your Dream Scholarship Fund,” was founded by HoomanTavakolian (aka Coach Mo) and Lorelei Martin-Tavakolian, with the help of Jon Tush, who was one of the first contributors and supporters of the fund.

    The scholarship is granted to a New York City student-athlete who has overcome obstacles, felt hardship, and who plans to wrestle in college. The scholarship is open to those who have graduated from high school (or are seniors attending college in the fall), and those who currently attend college. Read more...
