This year’s Become Your Own Dream (BYOD) scholarship recipient is Nathanael Rose of the Eagle Academy High School.

Nate began his wrestling career in the BTS Junior League as a middle school student at IS 129.  He is the first PSAL two-time NY State Champion. Other achievements include: 2x Mayor’s Cup Champion, 5th place at the Pan-American Games in Santiago, Chile, Pan-American Championship qualifier in Toronto.  He is the first PSAL student-athlete to earn All-American honors at the Fargo Freestyle National Tournament and the first PSAL Eastern States Tournament Champion.

The BYOD Fund was founded in 2011 by Hooman Tavakolian, Lorelei Martin-Tavakolian and Jon Tush. It has already awarded thousands of dollars to college-bound Beat the Streets-affiliated wrestlers. The scholarship committee looks for candidates’ achievements in high school, strength of character, short and long term goals, and most importantly how they hope to give back to the community.

“Nate possesses a lot of leadership skills and demonstrated a strength of character that really impressed me,” said Mr. Tavakolian, who joined BTSNY as a volunteer coach and recounts that he received a similar scholarship when he was a student at Great Neck High School on Long Island.

Co-founder Jon Tush says, “Nate’s desire to succeed is evident in his work ethic which is most outstanding.”

Nate will be wrestling for The University of Buffalo this fall. Congratulations, Nate!
